德国汉莎航空公司旗下两架A340-300型空中客车将从本月起至2013年夏季执行一项特殊的实验测试任务。作为多功能涂料研究的一部分，客机机身和机翼边缘被漆上了八块10公分见方的涂料片。自2011年中旬，这两架空中客车A340-300型客机就在由德国汉莎技术公司（Lufthansa Technik AG）、合作伙伴空中客车公司（Airbus Operations）以及位于不莱梅的德国弗劳恩霍夫制造技术和应用材料研究院(IFAM)合作下进行研发的项目中扮演重要角色。

此次测试的主要目的是测试鲨鱼皮涂料真实飞行过程中的耐久性。鲨鱼外皮能够减少水和身体摩擦产生的微漩涡及阻力，从而帮助鲨鱼在水中快速推进，这种性能同样有助于飞机在高速飞行过程中降低空气阻力。

正是基于由德国弗劳恩霍夫制造技术和应用材料研究院(不莱梅)研发的全新技术，鲨鱼皮结构能够被应用于机身涂料。根据最新的研究发现，该涂料将能减少1%左右的油耗以及降低运营成本。
